Google Ads Average Position Metric Deprecation

As of September 30th, 2019, Google Ads will deprecate the metric Average Position (Avg. Position), and will replace it with two new metrics:

  1. Impressions (Absolute Top) %: Search absolute top impression rate is the percent of your impressions that are shown as the very first ad above the organic search results.
  2. Impressions (Top) %: Search top impression rate is the percent of your impressions that are shown anywhere above the organic search results.

Please note that as of September 30th, 2019, all dashboard widgets using the Avg. Position metric will display 0 (zero) for all new periods, if not modified. However, historical data will remain available in all dashboards still using the Avg. Position metric.
